Human Resources Manager
Summary of Job Description
The HR Manager is responsible for talent acquisition and retention, corporate policy administration, benefits and compensation management, employee development and performance management and addressing employee issues. Minor responsibilities include basic reporting/documentation, Safety Team participation and administrative work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
TALENT ACQUISITION & RETENTION
- Assist with the creation and maintenance of job descriptions
- Network with social media and staffing agencies to acquire candidates
- Create a Grieve candidate selling strategy to find, attract and retain employees
- Network with schools and job trades to build a recruiting pipeline
- Attend Job Fairs and other recruiting events
- Conduct phone screens and coordinate interviews
- Coordinate new hire background check and drug screen
- Create consistent on-boarding process and coordinate with hiring manager
- Assist employees with new hire paperwork
- Implement plans to enhance employee retention
CORPORATE POLICY ADMINISTRATION
- Work with the COO and Business Manager to create and modify policies
- Communicate policy changes to the organization
- Work with the Leadership Team to ensure compliance and report results
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION MANAGEMENT
- Lead the renewal processes for health (medical, dental, vision, short term and long disability) and Property and Casualty insurance with third party insurance broker(s)
- Recommend benefit packages to ownership, COO and Business Manager
- Manage employee 401k plans with third party plan sponsor(s)
- Lead employee benefits communications in conjunction with third party broker(s)
- Assist employees with benefit related questions
- Work with Leadership Team to implement and manage compensation plans
- Complete reporting and documentation as needed
EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT
- Work with Leadership Team to create training and development programs
- Monitor and report on training and development results
- Create and implement a performance management program across the company
- Ensure compliance to all training and performance management requirements
ADDRESSING EMPLOYEE ISSUES
- First point of contact for basic employee issues regarding benefits, complaints and general issues
- Understand issue(s) and work with management and employee(s) to resolve
- Coordinate and document issues as needed
- Actively participate in Union collective bargaining agreement negotiations
BASIC REPORTING/DOCUMENTATION, SAFETY TEAM AND ADMINISTRATIVE WORK
- Complete required insurance and government reports in a timely and accurate manner
- Conduct employee interviews
- Maintain proper documentation (i.e.: employee injuries, property damage, performance issues, OSHA)
- Safety Team member
- Follow-up as needed to resolve open issues
- Maintain and file corporate and employee documents in a secure manner
- Lead special projects as needed
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Experience as a HR Manager or similar role in a large organization with ability to transition to entrepreneurial smaller, family owned business
- Knowledge of Illinois Employment and Labor Laws
- Excellent people skills
- Sound Leadership skills
- Ability to build collaboration and trust
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in a union environment
- Experience with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Attention to detail and ability to follow-up
